Madakaripura
waterfall is located in Probolinggo District, East Java Province, indoneisa.
This 656.168 ft height waterfall is the highest waterfall in Java Island and
the second highest in Indonesia. This waterfall is one of waterfalls in the
area of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park precisely on the slopes of Mount
Bromo. Madakaripura waterfall is located at the edge of a narrow and niche
shaped valley, surrounded by steep cliffs dripping water on all the cliffs like
rain, 3 of them even pouring down the waterfall again. Madakaripura also often
called the Eternal Waterfall. That's because the water that flowed by this
waterfall is always abundant and never decreased its debit even in dry season.This
waterfall located at an altitude of 1000 meters above mean sea level.
The name
of this waterfall is derived from the word Madakaripura, this words means “the
land belongs to Mahapatih Gajah Mada”, the
legendary warlord of the Majapahit kingdom. The ancient history of Majapahit
said that Patih Gajah Mada punished by the lord since he accused causing a war
beetween Majapahit (est Java) and Sunda Galuh (west Java). Therefore, he leave
the kingdom of Majapahit to south and spent his old days there in Madakaripura (according to Pararaton and Nagarakretagama script).

Waterfall is located at Sapih Village,
Lumbang District in Probolinggo. Madakaripura waterfall can be reached
from Probolinggo. From Probolinggo you can take a big bus to Tongas. You can
express your purpose to the conductor that you want to visit the waterfall and
you will be laid off at the Tongas T-junction. After the descent, you must
continue the journey with a minibus or motorcycle. The journey from Tongas to
the Madakaripura Waterfall is full of nice scenery and also the road is not
quite comfortable. But all that will be paid if the explorer has reached the
gate of Madakaripura.
